The Tallow Saint's Light

The lamp has told the truth every night for two hundred years. Nobody has asked it to.

A one-page dungeon for 3–5 characters, levels 1–3. Eight rooms up a wreckers’ tower, 30–60 minutes, system-neutral — the dungeon climbs, and every number is load-bearing.

THE ADVENTURE

Last night’s wreck is still coming apart on the Teeth, and the tower above it is warm, swept, and lit. Inside, one family firm runs the politest protection racket on the coast: a light that charges true prices, glass masks that bend distance, and a book that turns your name into standing. They never kill. Dead men bring cutters; robbed men bring lawyers — the firm prefers lawyers.

Down in the great lens, the Light has quoted honest tariffs for 73,000 nights — fed, and paid, and never advised — and in two centuries no keeper has ever asked for the TRUE setting. Somebody is about to. Every number on the page reconciles: 4 measures a night, 6 in fog, a wreck renders about 200, the Teeth take nine ships a year. Use them at the table; the arithmetic is the adventure.
